THE WALK

THE WALK…

Throughout history, there have been a large number of instances where people had to take walks. Seems like such a simple fact right! Now let us have a small picture…
Before man had an idea of inventing machines to travel in or more popularly, before the invention of the wheel, the only mode of transport was ‘walking’ or its faster brother ‘running’. Well running was essential both for gathering food as well as escaping the fate of becoming food to some predators. Once civilization started, there were the great travellers and traders who used to cross countries in search of more majestic lands. As we kept moving forward, politics got more and more developed and then there are phrases like ‘The Long Walk To Freedom’ which summarize the glory of walking in a very beautiful way.
The above examples seem like really important ones. Now comes our character who was born in France. This man has no reason to walk away from anybody, he does not have any major responsibilities to fullfil, he wants to walk a relatively short distance but then there’s a catch. He does not choose a firm ground to make his walk. He in fact chooses a wire. The good thing is that he can choose where he wants to put up his wire. Well the challenging news is that the authorities may not be quite so enthusiastic. All around him, he sees people who behave as if they are the ‘productive ones’. They all ask him why he wants to do the walk. The man frankly neither knows nor cares for a reason. He simply lives in a world in which proper steel is more valuable than gold. He meets a group of enthusiastic friends who are with him on his mission. When the day arrives, He hasn’t slept through the night but he still enjoys the morning, the rise of the sun.
In front of him, as he is about to take his first step, he sees only the beginning of the wire. It looks to him like a pathway that leads to infinity as clouds engulf his wire. Amidst this great infinite vastness, he finds himself his salvation…the wire…
